ELM Conversations

Listen. Read. Reflect

Honest, compassionate conversations exploring the invisible needs behind behaviour, school distress and family life—bringing together lived experience, practical guidance and real understanding.

Invisible Needs Through the Summer

School may have stopped, but children’s needs have not. Summer can bring relief from school pressure, while changes in routine, unfamiliar places, busy days and the approaching new term can create different challenges.

This short listen-or-read series will help families look beneath behaviour, understand changing capacity and support children gently throughout the summer.

When School Stops, the Need Doesn't

A child may appear lighter when the school term ends, but relief does not mean their underlying needs have disappeared. After months of coping, masking or simply getting through each day, summer may begin with exhaustion, withdrawal, irritability, disrupted sleep or an emotional release.

In this first ELM Conversation, we explore why removing school pressure does not instantly restore a child’s capacity—and how families can respond with rest, safety and understanding rather than new expectations.

Coming Through the Summer

Over the coming weeks, ELM Conversations will explore changing routines, sensory demands, delayed exhaustion, fluctuating capacity, the first signs of September anxiety and gentle preparation for returning to school.

Each conversation will offer a short recording in my own voice, an accessible written version and practical guidance that families can use immediately.
